29. WOODEN BARREL
French oak wooden barrel, suitable for use as a standing table at events, tastings and in hospitality venues
Description: The wooden barrel is used as a standing table for cocktail receptions, tastings, trade-fair stands, weddings and catering set-ups. Stood upright, its flat top head serves guests as a surface for glasses and plates, and at the same time it gives the room a wine-cellar character that ordinary furniture cannot provide. The barrel works well in wine bars, cellars, tasting rooms, hotel lobbies and on covered terraces, and equally as a standalone decorative element by an entrance or a bar. Its weight keeps it stable even when several guests lean on it, and it needs no fixing. For larger events the barrels combine well with bar stools and cocktail tables.
Materials: The barrel is made of French oak, with the staves held by metal hoops. Oak is a hard, dense timber with pronounced grain that takes mechanical loads well, and the mass of the barrel keeps it stable without any fixing. Because this is natural wood, colour, growth rings and traces of earlier use differ from barrel to barrel; these are not defects but a property of the material. Barrels are available in various capacities, the standard being the 225-litre barrique, with larger barrels (500-litre tonneau) and smaller versions available to order.
Use and maintenance: The barrel is intended for use as a standing table and as a decorative element, not as a seat or a step. When glasses and food are placed on it, we recommend covering the top with a cloth or a glass or wooden disc. A dry or slightly damp cloth is enough for cleaning; the barrel must not stand in water and is not intended for permanent exposure to rain and snow, since wood moves as humidity changes. Use indoors or on covered outdoor areas is recommended. If the barrel stands on a delicate floor covering, place a pad under the bottom head to prevent hoop marks.
